About the Author

Rita Coolidge is a two-time Grammy Award winner. She began her music career in Memphis before moving to Los Angeles, where she became one of the most popular backup singers in the business, recording with Leon Russell, Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, Stephen Stills, and other artists. Signed to A&M Records as a solo artist in 1971, she released more than two dozen albums in the years that followed, including the multiplatinum Anytime . . .Anywhere, and continues to record and tour. She lives in Fallbrook, California.

Behind the curtains

There is no one I would rather listen to than Rita Coolidge. I have gone to hear Rita at great venues such as Madison square garden when she was married to Kris, and just about any place she appeared in NYC solo. My favorite was at a Supper club within a hotel on Madison Avenue where In between songs she would stop and tell long stories about the circumstances of the song or the time and place. Rita is a great story teller who kept her audiences captivated and entertained. She was so warm and after the show you could have your picture taken with her and say hello.

Her stories although shorter than those in the book, however, never placed the person she was talking about in a bad light. She would never, as far as I remember criticize somebody else for there off key singing or repeat something they might have said in there darkest hours.
Throughout the book I wondered if this was Rita's voice or Michael walkers voice wanting to spice it up or an editor who thought a certain "tone" would sell more books. If you love Rita like I do you will have to buy the book and read it for yourself, however I think a lot was lost in having a co-author. Do not misunderstand me, the book was a page turner and gave me glimpse into a world that is hard to relate to. I guess it is just the side of Rita Coolidge I never imagined

Delta Lady Shines

Rita Coolidge is one of my favorite singers of all time. I had the great fortune to meet her after a show in Las Vegas, and she was the most gracious person you would ever want to meet. That graciousness shines through in Delta Lady. I have always wished that one day Rita would tell her story, and here she does just that with warmth, honesty and a sense of humor. Stories about her childhood, experiences on the road with Joe Cocker, meeting and marrying Kris Kristofferson, and being a chart-topping artist are all told as if Rita was an old friend. It's clear that there is still sadness about the dissolution of her marriage to Kris, but I admire them for remaining friends. Rita talks about the people she has met on her long journey through the music industry and I can see why so many people couldn't help but to love her. She's a classy lady through and through. This is certainly one of the most enjoyable memoirs I've ever read.

I've been a fan forever based on her voice alone. She has shared her story and insight into an era of music that continued to change and grow in spite of so much drama within the industry. I loved the story of Joe Cocker since he is also one of my all-time favorites and now I appreciate him even more. A tumultuous story (I remember so many of the incidents in the news at that time that she shares with just enough emotion so as not to villain-ize any of the people involved in her life) told with love and beauty.

A beautiful tale of love, loss, and magic

Lisa Ann Verge has written an incredibly poignant tale of fated true love, human pain and loss, and wild fairy magic. Though Conor is an immortal, his trials and triumphs are all too human, and this story is so well written the reader can all but see his wooing dance with his love jump off the pages! I laughed as she speared him with her rapier wit, and I cried when together they struggled against the cruel whims of the world.

Book 1 in a series . It's a Paranormal with lots of Turns and Truths . Received the Arc from the Author for an honest Review .

Ireland 573 AD . Lots of unrest . Religion wise , Christianly was just growing . In a forest there was a healer , a daughter , that was banished from her fathers side. Bridget was her name . She and her mother was banished from her fathers side . There is a small thing , her father was the King . Bridget's father banished her and her mother by orders of the priests . . She was one with the animals and nature . Even the Fai were playing with her and talking to her through signals . Not only was Bridget a healer but she had the second sight ( today we call it Clairvoyant ) . While she was playing with thee fai they gave her signs, the air turned , the animals grew quite . And out of nowhere a man appeared with a sword . He asks her questions and the answers were to his liking .
The mans name is Conaire. Conaire takes her breath away. Conaire is not like any other man . He was born on Samhain, the biggest day of Ireland . He has never known his father . And Conaire mother passed wile birthing him. He has heard rumors but he doesn't know . The rumors are that his father was Fai. Conaire tells a story to Bridget ,she questions him because the story pcs don't fit together .
Conaire keeps on returning to Bridget in the forest and things progress. There is a lot of things that happen to many to list . Conaire tells Bridget since he is a king he will marry her and bring her back to her village . The same one she was banished from. Lots of Backstabbing and evil plots . Nobody in the village will help Bridget because of again what the priests say.
Conaire leaves Bridget and goes into battle . He gets killed but because he is immortal he rises. Both Conaire and Bridget has to leave they have to run because the village is after them . Lots of twists and turns . Get it and find out . They land on an island that hardly anything is on there . Bridget's because she is human and grows old . She thinks that Conaire will grow tired of her . Thing is Conaire loves her with his whole heart and Soul. When Bridget does pass he mourns her deeply . As was custom back then he cremates her .

Many centuries later , exactly the year 1240 Conaire is returning from the Holy land and settles in a place . Conaire in memory of Bridget has become a healer , a doctor . He is looking for a place to sleep . Nothing is available . He hears about a merchant that has a sick daughter . He goes to see her and all Conaire wants in exchange is a place to rest . Days later the daughter , Desiree , is better and they meet . Conaire looks into her eyes and sees Bridget . He tells her somethings just to see her reaction and he throws at her one thing ,,, he tells her "you have the second sight ". Grab it and see do they make things work in this lifetime . Does Desire soul remember things .

What I loved about this story is that there lots of layers. First clairvoyant (second sight ) reincarnation . A healer . And a typical thing back then with the priests judging people . I didn't tell you lots . This story has lots of layers . Grape it

A Beautifully Written Story

I received a free copy of this novel (ebook) from the publisher/author for my unbiased opinion of it.

This is an Irish love story that is so well written and holds up to the title - Twice Upon A Time. The characters are well developed and have you wishing for them to have a happy ending but nothing is ever that easy. I love how the characters come together and make their way through the things that bring them together and threaten to tear them apart. They are only human (well, one is) and you must learn to preserver to the end.
It's hard to lose a loved one as so happens not but once but twice in this story but Fate has a way of always coming back around. What's meant to be will be whether in this lifetime or in the next as Conor learns as he finds, loses and then finds his beloved again in a later time.
I love how this story is written and pieced together. I was worried that certain parts would feel too repeated as certain scenarios are used again but I was not disappointed as the author does a good job making it come together just right.
This is definitely a book that I would recommend to anyone who likes romance and who especially has some Irish in their blood like I do. This story will touch you, warm your heart and bring a tear to your eye.

LOVE This Book!!!

I absolutely LOVE this book. As a drum instructor I use it to get away from the traditional "2,4" beats. It even helped me brush up on my own skills as well.
I've had some younger students who have trouble reading drum music, let alone playing the proper drum at the proper time. I found that using this coupled with color coding right and left (ie orange highlighter is right, blue is left) it made it easier for the student to understand. Prior to using this book with that particular younger student, they could only play two parts at once. Now, because of the pedagogy of this book, most beats come pretty easily to that student.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone having trouble with playing simple beats and drum coordination. I would also say the seasoned player could get a lot of use out of this book, especially for site reading.

Essential book. Difficult but rewarding.

Free open independence of limbs should be any drummer's goal. To be able to play any rhythm with any limb regardless of what the other 3 are doing. This book breaks you down from the ground up. Most drummers will immediately notice their left foot as the weakest link start to catch up to speed with the rest of their limbs with the initial melodic coordination exercises. This is not an easy book, you'll be humbled very quickly if you expect to blaze through this one. It's imperative to take your time on this stuff. You need to step up to this book with a zen-like patience and a child-like excitement to the challenges that await. One extremely important tip to getting through this book is to assign each hand and foot to a different drum. The obvious would be...

right hand = floor tom
left hand = snare
right foot = kick
left foot = hihat pedal

This is imperative because it allows you to memorize the pattern by ear once you've played it enough. Something that would be impossible to do effectively with both hands on the snare or each foot on a kick pedal. Good luck and be persistent. This book only works if you work on it. I personally don't do very well sight reading music. I learn best by ear, so I have transcribed pages into a midi sequencer and learned by ear with a good system used for tracking my progress with each exercise. I truly love this book. It's a monster.

I recently decided to start taking lessons as a way to help me sight read through this book. My teacher told me most of his students didn't really enjoy it, as the musical application of the ideas are not spelled out for you. They simply wanted to move onto learning patterns that had an immediate and obvious musical application. As other's have said this book isn't designed to teach you new grooves and patterns that can be lifted directly from the book and used in an immediate musical context without using your imagination. These have more of a drill type feel to them. Which is to be expected. This book is designed to give you limb interdependence. It goes after one goal in an extremely solid and thorough way. It's up to you to translate that interdependence into musical ideas yourself. Every drummer knows what it feels like when they hit a snag with a pattern that requires slow practice to master. If you thrive on chasing that dragon, get this book. You will be a better drummer for it.

The Pot of Gold

If you are seeking help with limb independence on the drumset this is a must buy. It's the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that you are seeking. Truly it is. It's not hard to use at all. In fact, it's extremely simple exercises, but they will indeed do what they say.

I just bought the book and I have only had it a few days. Yes, it's true that I can't speak from actual results yet, but just from starting in on these exercises I can see precisely how they are going to take me to full limb independence in baby-steps. All that's required now is for me to sit down and practice these though this book. I have no doubt at all that they will take me where I want to be in terms of limb independence. I can already feel it coming in the very first set of exercises.

Just as a tip for anyone one who buys, or owns, this book. The actual instructions are very brief. There really isn't much to say. The exercises speak for themselves. However they do say to play 2 bars of rhythm and 2 bars of exercises. They don't go into detail about that. What I realized they mean is to play two bars of groove (pick a groove of your own choice), and then two bars of exercises, drop back into your groove, then play the next two-bar exercise, and so on. Wow! That really helps and instantly gives these exercises a musical feel.

Also, some of the exercises are printed as eighth notes. You can put any kind of swing field on them you like. It's not about timing. All they are using the notes for is to convey which limb should play each note. So you can play these independence exercises to any rhythmic beat you so chose. It's not about rhythm, it's about limb independence. So it doesn't matter whether you're playing jazz, funk, rock, you name it. These exercises can be played with any musical feel you like. Just get a groove going and start playing these two-bar exercises, then two-bars of groove, and back and forth. You can't go wrong. You might even come up with some really cool beats of your own just from having gone through these independence exercises.

I can't recommend the book highly enough. Like someone else said, it's worth 20 stars if limb independence is your goal. You'll feel it coming as soon as you start in on these. Not to imply that it will come easy. You may need to start out slow, but you'll quickly feel that you're on the right path.

I'm certainly excited about this lesson book. Like some others have mentioned, it's quite unconventional in its approach, and as far as I can see this is the "secret method" I was seeking. The pot of Gold that I never believed existed.

Sexy

This is a quick read to hold us over while waiting for the next full installment.
The writing was great. This is the most sexual of all the books so far, basically the story is the hero/heroine remembering what it was like to have sex with each other, wanting to have sex and fighting it, and then giving in to that desire.
For me, the ending was a little unsettled. I prefer my stories to be more wrapped up. I felt like something was going to be discovered and then was left hanging, to not worry about the future right now.
Can't wait for the next in the series!

I had to give this five stars because I love this series. Talk about hot, this starts with a slow simmer and goes to boiling very fast. The only thing I would change is to enlarge on the ending. I want to know what happens to them. I know what I want to happen and where my own mind went, yet I want in the ending.

This the 4.5 book in the Black Mesa Wolves Series. I liked this book. I liked the story line and the characters. I enjoyed the chemistry between Mason and Ana. I enjoyed how Ana kept trying to be a good wolf and trying to keep Mason alive by staying away from him. I liked how Mason wouldn’t take no for an answer about getting back together with Ana. I loved how Mason kept getting more and more growly and exhibiting Alpha tendencies as the story moves along. I was not expecting the ending and I really liked it. I received this free story in exchange for an honest review. Here is a synopsis about the book. This is an EXPANDED version of the original SHORT STORY set in the Black Mesa Wolves world. For the most enjoyment, consider reading it after Wild Wolf #4, although that is not strictly necessary in order to enjoy this holiday tale! Omega wolf Ana Lyall knows she is essential to the Black Mesa Wolf Pack, despite being its lowest-ranking member. She knows her place, and she's content in it--until she met Mason Pearce and he opened her heart. Abelson and Sussman's classic Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs teaches readers how to program by employing the tools of abstraction and modularity. The authors' central philosophy is that programming is the task of breaking large problems into small ones. The book spends a great deal of time considering both this decomposition and the process of knitting the smaller pieces back together.

The authors employ this philosophy in their writing technique. The text asks the broad question "What is programming?" Having come to the conclusion that programming consists of procedures and data, the authors set off to explore the related questions of "What is data?" and "What is a procedure?"

The authors build up the simple notion of a procedure to dizzying complexity. The discussion culminates in the description of the code behind the programming language Scheme. The authors finish with examples of how to implement some of the book's concepts on a register machine. Through this journey, the reader not only learns how to program, but also how to think about programming.

About the Author

Hal Abelson is Class of 1922 Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a fellow of the IEEE. He is a founding director of Public Knowledge, and the Free Software Foundation. Additionally, he serves as co-chair for the MIT Council on Educational Technology.

Gerald Jay Sussman is the Matsushita Professor of Electrical Engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also the coauthor of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (MIT Press, second edition, 1996).

Howard C. Hughes is Professor of Psychology at Dartmouth College.

The best programming book ever, if you're a certain kind of person

This was the book that made me want to be a computer programmer. When I read it, I had no knowledge of programming beyond a little Pascal, and rudiments of C.
It had a massive impact on me. It consumed me, to the point where I had difficulty finishing assignments for my classes (I did not study CS as an undergrad). What the book does is give you a vocabulary and knowledge about programming that is hard to find anywhere else.

The text, the examples and exercises, have a mathematical flavor, and that may turn off many potential readers, who would rather gadget around than find elegant solutions for the 8-queens puzzle or efficient algorithms to compute Fibonacci numbers.

I've lent this book to several friends who were interested in learning to program, and in all cases they have returned it to me, saying it went over their heads.
There seem to be two camps in computer programming:
- the gadgeteers, who want to hook devices together and make them do fun things
- the scientists, who appreciate computing as a medium in itself
This book is for the second type.

Not for beginners. No comments in the code examples.

Although used as an introductory text at MIT, this book is definitely not for the average new programmer. From the very beginning, there's a big focus on recursion and recursion can be a tricky topic even for experienced coders. But what makes the book EXTRA difficult for anyone is the complete lack of comments in the code examples. A college freshman writing uncommented code should get an F. Also the procedure and variable names that are not as clear as they should be. From its reputation I expected some kind of inspiring book on the zen of software theory, but instead it was a bit of a slog. It was written as a textbook after all.

Realize that there are no answers for most of the exercises. You won't get the full value out of the book unless you buy the companion instructor's manual.

Computer Science...Art?

You need it, too. I won't pretend to have more useful insight into the art and craft of programming, or into SICP's relationship to it, than Paul Graham or Peter Norvig- if you want to know which reviews to trust, look these cats up.

The discussion in the reviews usually concludes that this is the book that separates the computer scientists from the mere programmers. There is a definite logic to this. If you want a book that will have you churning out code that does something helpful in half an hour(because you don't think the several ways to calculate the Fibonacci Sequence are helpful), by all means, pick up Learning Perl or just read the Python documentation. They are great tools. If, however, you want to tool up on problem-solving technique a whole level or three higher up, SICP is for you. The Wizard Book is about learning to think better.

Here is where I diverge from the idea that this book is for only computer scientists, though. I am an artist, graduated from college with a BA in art, going to graduate school for an MFA. SICP is one of the books that changed how I work and think. It will make you a better programmer if you read (and reread (and reread)) it in the same way that learning Latin will make you understand language itself in a whole new way. I use ideas from SICP constantly, to design software, but also to design staircases. The book is slow-going, no doubt about it, but you'll have a whole new mental toolset at the end.

One caveat- this book is freely distributed in its entirety on MIT's website. I still bought a copy, though: who knows how long this internet thing will last, but SICP is going to be relevant forever.

Disappointing read

When I came across this book I was first delighted. I was hoping for a proper book on Information Architecture. After reading the book, I must say that the book both delivers and disappoints.

On the positive side: it is indeed a book on architecting information for the enterprise (as opposed to structuring a web site). And the focus of the author is on defining and modelling information, information flows and information responsibilities, as opposed to focussing on IT architecture. His "essential eight factors" and some of the checklist are very useful, as are his discussions on using information to drive change and the various types of information responsibilities. Also his vision on the various viewpoints on information that are at the same time different and all true is spot on.

Why is the book disappointing? Well, it is a "what" book and not a "how" book. It contains checklists and procedures, but hardly any information on how to execute those procedures, or what the results should look like. The author states several times that an "information value chain" is an important technique for the information architect, but never shows an example! Most examples that *are* in the book, are too simple and too abstract to be of use. "Understanding" is one of the essential eight factors discussed, but the book itself lacks understandability. Most sentences are very abstract. The book definitly lacked a good editor: someone should have told the author that he probably is very good at his work, but not very good at writing and explaining about it. The author never defines "information architecture" and the part about "integrating knowledge" (as stated in the subtitle on the cover) is completely missing from the book.

I think that the "real" contents of this book can be written down in about 50 pages. It is sad that the author needs another 170 pages to actually hide what he has to tell.
