Fantastic Book for educators at all levels!

I'm reading this book for my Doctoral program and I was blown away by Dr. Milner's writing. The beauty of this book is that it can be used both in an academic scholarly sense and can also be enjoyed by those who just would like to learn more about urban education and inequities. I would highly recommend this book for educators at any level and those who are passionate and/or curious about education and its foundation, current state, and possible future direction.

This book should be required reading in every introductory department of education class whether at undergraduate/graduate level. It is especially important for those students who are interested in or assigned to low income inner city settings. I highly recommend it.

Easy to follow; just wish there was a little more support from Pearson

This is the 2nd school year that I used this textbook for our 9th grade computer class. Overall I definitely like this textbook. It's easy to follow, and the online resources are helpful. There are some errors in the book. On very rare occasions a step in assignment does not match the student data files.

We purchased the spiral bound hardback for our classroom use. The textbooks are great quality. This week I purchased the spiral-bound softcover assuming that it would have the same content as the hardback spiral-bound. Unfortunately there is a drastic difference between the content of the spiral-bound softcover and the spiral-bound hardcover. The difference is around 300 pages missing. The spiral-bound softcover does not include Access, and perhaps other topics too. I haven't looked closely.

Pearson seems to have lost interest in this series. I have attempted contacting them for help with specific assignments, and they did not respond. I also inquired about the Level 2 teacher's manual, and they replied saying that there was NO teacher's manual for Level 2 and they have no plans to write one.

Again, I really do like this series other than the few issues mentioned above.

Outstanding collection and translation

This book collects nearly two dozen classical writings on the use of sexual energy in achieving health and long life. It's a distinctly non-Western tradition, but presents a unified, interlocking set of ideas.

The largest part of this lore corresponds to Western alchemy. It uses many of the same metaphors, such as mercury, lead, and the crucible, and much of the same elliptical language. In a few places, the metaphors or code-words are so obscure that translators disagree wildly on their meanings, and even on whether the meanings can be reconstructed correctly. Other parts of the writings draw on mystical Taoism, Buddhism, and the same vital energies that explain acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. Not surprisingly, much of the tradition is aimed at male readers, with relatively little concern for the women. Despite the over-all male orientation, the last few selections do address women, with needs that sometimes match and sometimes differ from the men's. Even the men's writings address the importance of the woman's excitement, though, and describe the outwardly visible signs of its many stages.

However it is phrased or whoever it is addressed to, this set of practices is based on summoning and channeling sexual energy. Many of the authors use the "paired way" of coition to raise that power. Others use solo exercises in self-stimulation for the same purpose. This seems especially common in the women's texts, possibly because placing her needs before the man's would have been culturally unacceptable. The emphasis is on yogic self-discipline rather than exotic poses. Still, one author does offer a list of couplings with poetic names such Mandarin Ducks United (a pose I enjoy very much, because of range of additional caresses it makes possible). I recommend this book very highly to students of Asian thought and to anyone else who wants to see different perspectives on the practice and power of human sexuality.

Excellent translations on sexual alchemy.

This is a compendium of translations of over 20 classic Chinese texts on Taoist esoteric sexual practice. For those with this particular interest, I highly recommend it. There's no other book like it.
This is not a `new-age relationships' book, nor a `light-reading sex-tips' book; it's a scholarly and faithful set of translations of Taoist texts originating from the second century B.C. through the early 1700's.
These might be rather heady for the beginner, but if you've studied alchemical Taoism (especially the sexual aspect) from more modern sources - and would like to peruse some of the classics (from the 1000's of years that the Chinese have been studying this stuff), then this is THE book. It's extremely well written; the introduction alone is worth the price of the book.

About the Author
Bijan Vasigh is professor of Economics and Finance in the College of Business at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach Florida. Dr. Vasigh received a Ph.D. degree in Economics from the State University of New York and he has written and published many articles concerning the aviation industry. The articles have been published in numerous academic journals such as the Journal of Economics and Finance, Journal of Transportation Management, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Scientific and Technical Aerospace Reports, Transportation Quarterly, Airport Business, Journal of Business and Economics, and Journal of Travel Research. Bijan is also author of leading aviation textbooks entitled An Introduction to Air Transport Economics: From Theory to Application and The Foundations of Airline Finance: Methodology and Practice.

Reza Taleghani is currently a Managing Director with J.P. Morgan Securities in New York where he has spent the majority of his career as an investment banker to the air transport sector. He also has a deep understanding of the operational aspects of the industry, having recently served as President and CEO of Sterling Airlines, a leading Scandinavian low cost carrier. His expertise in aircraft finance arises from his experience originating and structuring financings of transportation assets in the Securitized Products Group at J.P. Morgan, as well as operating a fleet of jet aircraft at Sterling. During his time at J.P. Morgan, he has also worked on mergers and acquisitions; initial public offerings; secured, unsecured and ECA-backed financing in the syndicated finance and capital markets; leveraged finance; restructuring; and risk management for airline and lessor clients in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. Mr. Taleghani holds dual AB degrees in History and Organizational Behavior and Management from Brown University. He received his JD and MBA from Villanova University.

Darryl Jenkins has over 30 years of aviation experience. Recent work includes extensive merger and acquisition experience at United Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Previously, he was at GWU for fifteen years and served as director of the Aviation Institute and was the Director of the Graduate Certificate Program in Aviation Management from 2001 to 2003.
