Terrific insight on left handed kids, & the things we take for granted.
By Gina Goodwin
This book is a terrific resource on left-handed kids. I was completely amazed by thing's that are so natural to us right handed people, and how the lefty's are left struggling. They balance on the opposite foot (to us) when we help them get pants, shoes on etc...stand in front of the door differently, and the blade on the pencil sharpener & scissors are even a challenge! MUST READ for every parent of a lefty!

We ordered this book, because we have a lefty learning to write. It was amazing how many obstacles a lefty truly has. Great book for info on Lefthandedness. Would have liked more writing samples.

Right handed parents will do themselves and their south paw children a favor by reading this book.
By Aggie '61
Great book that goes beyond the surface stuff like left-handed scissors. I am left-handed, right-eyed, left-footed, and ambidextrous in other things. This book delves into all aspects of hand/eye/foot dominance. It gives brain theories and research to describe how we think and work mechanically.
Right handed parents will do themselves and their south paw children a favor by reading this book. It will help parents look through the eyes of their lefty child. Being aware should make teaching and modeling easier (especially in the elementary years). I sometimes wonder if my dad realized that I was left-handed because he taught me how to tie knots with my right hand. Tying a knot with my right hand was awkward early on; but I overcame it.
The book should calm the fears of right-handed parents who worry that their lefty will have a "real hard time" in life. Yes, there are some accommodations that we have to make; but they can all be dealt with. I taught myself to use right handed scissors in my left hand (without any coaching). Let the little troopers experiment; but be aware that you may be looking through your right-sided bias.
Big Takeaway: Don't try to convert your child - it isn't necessary; and it may do more to confuse brainwaves than you think. Read the book.
