I bought my first edition of this book back in the late 80s and even though I have taken good care of it, over the decades ... well, the past is gobbling up the future. For years the only source book of this nature was '777 and other Qabalistic Writings of Aleister Crowley' This is a great book to supplement 777 and I highly recommend it to anyone who studies the Literal and the Unwritten Qabalah. It is, simply put, a must have for any Esoteric Library. It functions much the same as Crowley's 777 so if you are familiar with that book you will have no problems with this one. The real difference between the two is Godwin's is a bit easier to read, as opposed to A. Crowley's writing style. I'm fine with Crowley's writings. Love them. But, this book is really easy to read and USE in your everyday studies of QBL! 93!

It doesn't spark joy.

I didn't know what to expect because this was a new item and had no reviews when I ordered it. It is described as a stationary item so I was hoping for a mostly blank book with questions leading me through decluttering different areas of the house or my life. It turns out to be just a gratitude journal. There are a few quotes scattered throughout the book but it's basically a page for each day of the year, with 3 spaces for 3 different years, where you can record what sparked joy that day. I don't hate it but I was hoping for something a little more KonMari specific like a weekly or monthly focus on a particular area of life. As a gratitude journal it is okay. I was just hoping for something more.

Perfect for recording the moments in your life that spark joy! This is a personal journal- not a guide to any other book.

I absolutely love this journal. It is exactly what I was looking for: a beautiful book to jot down memories from the day that sparked joy. I plan to use it with my kids as a way to keep us mindful of the happy things in life. Each page is devoted to one day of the year (e.g. January 13) and divided into three sections so that the book can be used three years in a row (e.g. 2016, 2017, 2018). This way when I am writing in my journal on the night of January 13th, 2018 I can look back and see what sparked joy for me exactly two years earlier. Some people have unfairly given this book low ratings because the journal is not what they expected. Yes, the description for this journal is a little unclear, but for what this book is intended to be, it in every way lives up to its purpose. And it is so pretty!

Love it...create a revolutionary shift in your mindset by asking yourself " Does it spark joy?"

I will admit, this was not not what I expected (I didn't really know what to expect but I reasoned if it was from Marie Kondo, I wanted it..) I love the feel of it, the size of it ( it matches perfectly the size of her other two books in height, making it a great set for deeply delving into Marie Kondo's principles, and one you can keep out on a table or counter or under your pillow to remind you of your desire of getting into the habit of "the life-changing magic of tiding up". I especially like the 3 year journal aspect of it and the space in which to write of things that spark joy everyday.. I find that this journal is a perfect tool to help me in discovering the daily things I do that truly bring me joy. Helping me choose more of those activities that do bring me joy and discarding more of the the ones that do not spark joy for me. It helps you focus on the positive and ties in perfectly with her other 2 books. It is a process helper. Great Job Marie! Thank you. I have ordered one for a friend that is on the same path as I, and another for myself so that I will have 6 years of joy gathering data. One thing I do think would help is to let buyers be able to look inside the journal so that they might understand more clearly what they are buying. I am good with this as I said, because it works very well for me as I have already read her other 2 books and I see how perfectly they dovetail and go together.

Excellent work!

I'm biased. I got a copy of Jeffrey Forgeng's translation of the I.33 manuscript (the oldest extant work on swordsmanship)about five years ago and have been working with it ever since. Even so, I was astounded at the beauty and clarity of the lovely colour plates, reproduced here at amazing resolution.
I.33 occupies a special place in fencing history, demonstrating the sophistication of swordsmanship at this early date (1300AD). It shows a marvelous system of sword and buckler play, every bit as subtle as any later fencing system (and why wouldn't it? medieval swordsmen's lives depended on their skill with a sword, so of course their skill was highly developed).
This is an excellent translation of a key work in the history of swordsmanship. It is not a how-to book though an accompanying one exists (Written by Paul Wagner and myself). Anyone interested in western swordsmanship, the history of movement or of teaching methodology, or simply interested in a fine piece of artwork from the late 13th century needs this book on their shelves.

A Beautiful Facsimile

Royal Armouries MS I.33 is the oldest illustrated fencing manual in existence, which makes this book valuable to students of European Medieval martial arts for that reason alone. However, it also has the distinctions of describing an interesting non-military style of fencing, is beautifully illustrated in the style of illuminated religious manuscripts, and depicts priests and women fencers! Because of the 8.5 x 11 glossy, color plates, this book is expensive, but I think it is worth it for the reasons cited above.
The translator, Dr. Jeffrey Forgeng, has been working in the field for decades and his introductory material and footnotes are exhaustive and provide a lot of information on the context of the Medieval German fencing tradition that are not in print anywhere else.
Understand, however, that this is a facsimile and translation of a manuscript, it is not a how-to book on medieval sword fighting. The how-to book on this system is Paul Wagner & Stephen Hand's "Medieval Sword and Shield: The Combat System of Royal Armouries MS I.33" also published by Chivalry Bookshelf.
No serious library of books on European Medieval martial arts is complete without this book.

A challenging book

I've spent the last 5 weeks pouring over this book and I love it. But I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner. You'll have to learn to visualise guards and counters and run all the various permutations through your head (unless you have a sparring partner) from a set of medieval illustrations with all the usual flaws of perspective that you might expect. Once you start to connect the reality of sword & buckler fighting to the unusual stylistic elements of the drawings, a whole world of insight will be opened up to you.

Before tackling this book, I'd suggest you find out about "invitation", "counter-timing" and "inside and outside lines". I'd suggest you read Guy Windsor's "A Swordsman's Companion" as it has some of the most elegant descriptions of fighting principles I've ever read. And perhaps read some DiGrassi to learn about buckler shadows (if my memory serves me right).

I'd also highly recommend you read Wagner & Hand's interpretation of the I.33 manuscript (Medieval Sword & Shield) at the same time.

Valuable Reference

As the book description states, this is a consolidation of articles that were previously published in Model Railroader. So if you have a complete collection of back issues, you don't need this book. However, if you don't or you just want all the information in a single place, this book does the job. The editor has done a very good job of selecting the material for this edition. There is a mix of prototype data to help you decide the appropriate style and modeling topics from modifying kits to scratchbuilding. There are plenty of illustrations and photos to show how to construct a wide variety of culverts, bridges, trestles, and viaducts.

The best thing about this book is how easy it is to find information on building model railroad structures. I love the Central Valley bridge on the cover and it inspires me to build more bridge kits!

I am looking forward to seeing more steel structure components to be released by Central Valley in the future and encourage them to produce more N scale & O scale CVT along with the steel structures.

the perfect book from a master of bass!

I use this book almost every single day. The exercises are concise, great fun and perfect for strength building. You can really see the time and effort put into creating each little exercise with the intent of becoming a better player in just a few minutes each time. I'd recommend this book to anyone, even Myung or Wooten... Yes that's right. I'm sure even they could learn a few things from it!!

I'm lucky enough to have been taught by Marek himself. When i first joined my band Skreamer, e sat with me during our first album recording and showed me just how creative a bassist can be when laying down my parts. It truly opened my eyes! His lessons are always something to look forward to. You always leave full of motivation and hunger to improve. Apart from having a flawless technique to look up to, he's insistent on thinking outside the box at every turn. He pushes you to become not just a better bassist, but a better musician.

Profound and highly useful Exercises

This book should be in every bassist's library. It provides material for both the beginner and the very advanced and if you follow the instructions you will have a hundred professional lessons' worth of material to study for the next year or so.
It's hard to beat this concise, clear and well-structured instructional opus - you will be able to use it for practice, warm-up, rhythmn schooling, tempo control, groove and also as an inspiration to create your own licks, melodies, pieces etc.
Furthermore you feel that the author knows what he's talking about and has a lot of experience to share.
The price is more than fair if you consider that
a) your playing will improve drastically if you follow the exercises and
b) you will be able to utilize this book for years!

I have just received the book and have already gone through half of it. Very useful, situations are explained in a simple and intuitive way. Overall I would personally recommend this book to the people who learn the English language as their foreign language. Having read half of the book, I see that there would still be questions regarding the omission of the articles, but the specific cases should be addressed specifically. The book cannot substitute the "feeling" of the language. As a self-study reference book it is more than useful.

I don't work for Princeton Review, all I used was this book and it worked tremendously

First of all, I never write reviews, but I read a couple of reviews on here (apparently written by GRE tutors) that, quite frankly, appalled me to my core and so here it goes:

One reviewer states , "Don't let this book give you a false sense of security."

-Do not listen to that. Any sense of security going in to that exam is a good thing.

Same reviewer then makes the audacious claim that in order to get the "highest score possible", at a minimum, you should spend upwards of $100 on prep materials instead of this book.

-Ordering and receiving all these materials at once, and then trying to digest them all simultaneously, will probably overwhelm you into a catatonic fetal position. You should dip your feet in the water first before diving in, and this book is a good guide for these uncharted waters.

Finally, said reviewer leaves you with the ominous and foreboding cliffhanger, "The GRE is easy for some, but not for most."

-Boy, am I glad I didn't talk to YOU before I took the GRE. Jeez Louise. I couldn't think of a worse mentality to put someone in before preparing for the exam. Mentality, that's the name of the game here, and that's what these tests are really, just games with a score, and in this game, and just like any other game, you've got to learn how to play. This book will help you do that.

-My Actual Review of the Book-

I started preparing for the GRE about 2.5 months before I was going to take it, and all I did was read this book from front to cover. I read every page, answered every question, and read my flashcards every now and then for maybe an hour or a half hour each day. I had no tutor and didn't use any other books besides this one. I had just graduated college so I had very little money, and don't ask me why, but I felt that if I just bought one of these test prep books and read it front to cover, I'd be as prepared as I'd ever be for the exam. Honestly, I chose Princeton Review because I figured it was most likely written by Ivy League people and they we're probably smarter than I was. After 2.5 months I took the exam and did very well, well enough to be accepted to an Ivy League PhD program and would absolutely attribute a lot of that success to this book.

The great thing about this book is that it actually reads like a book and not like a textbook. In fact, I would recommend that if you do get this book, to read it front to cover. The tone and language of the book is very personable, succinct, and straightforward. The way it's narrated, it's almost like a story where you are the main character, the GRE is the setting, and to get into grad school you must overcome these obstacles that are sections on the test.

The book builds your knowledge of the test and subsequent test-taking strategies from the ground up. These strategies are very logical and effective, and if you practice them you will bring them with you into the room come test time. Done correctly, this book should frame the exam for you in a way so that when you go to the testing center to take the exam, you'll be walking in knowing what to expect and how to deal.
