Didn't care for it
By C. Wall
(some spoilers) I am giving this two starts because I did enjoy the beginning of the book, but then about half way through, I started getting irritated with the characters. The heroine felt too perfect for me, too nice, too sweet. It just got on my nerves. It also was a bit annoying how all of the hero's friends were in love with her. She seemed so strong in the beginning and then seemed to turn into a emotional weakling, always storming off and slamming doors. I also don't understand why she was on the run for 5 years. She had no contact with her stalker/rapist except one letter in the beginning, yet she continued to be in hiding, relocating every six months or so. It wasn't like he was making appearances or threatening her, causing her to up and move to a new location. Then at the end of the book, it wasn't even the hero who rescued her. Some things about this book just felt choppy, and near the end of the book I found myself skipping sections just to get the book finished. I wasn't a fan.

Great Alpha Read
By Kindle Customer
***MILD SPOILERS INCLUDED

I really enjoyed this book. Let me start off by clarifying from the cover that this is not a biker book. Yes, they know a biker MC, but it really has nothing to do with the overall story at all.
Basically a Lieutenant from the Army moves to Rapid City and the guys from his group follow him. They've built a brotherhood between them that only war and death can create.
The Lieutenant, Chris "Shooter" Sullivan is very Alpha. The whole town loves him. Between the guys, they basically know everything about the town's goings-on and watch out for it.
Cue Hayley - just off the bus, running from a horrible past and doesn't plan on staying longer than it takes to build up some cash and get gone.
Because, if she stays too long, her past just might catch up to her.(*Side Note: There's not a lot of detail of this past, even when the book explains it, you're kind of left wondering why this guy from left field took on this obsession and what it had to do with her).
She gets a job at the local bar as a waitress. She uses the ruse that she's basically an on the run beaten woman from her man. She doesn't tell them that, she just gives herself bruises and uses the deer in headlights look when they ask her about it.
They don't know her past and the person she's running from is worse than that.
Right off the bat, Shooter is suspicious of Hayley. He knows she's lying and can tell she's conning the people around her...just not sure of what she's conning and the extent of it.
However, his Alpha possessiveness...combined with the strange attraction he has to her, has him demanding he move into his rent house (next door to his) for her safety. Hayley puts up a good fight, but agrees.
So the relationship begins to build. If I had to guess from memory, I would say that it's almost 50% where they actually start off the relationship from friends to lovers. The scenes are scorching hot!
It is a little cheesy with how much all the guys are just in love with Hayley and the extent of their protection/possessiveness they offer her...even from Shooter.
They all know she was most likely raped, but figure it was from a boyfriend who's still after her.
No one mentions it to Hayley, they just treat her like gold to help her feel secure.
So the story goes from there and it just keep's getting better.
HOWEVER - I'm a little miffed that when the ball got rolling and the bad guy finally caught up to Hayley, it wasn't even Shooter that got to save her. He was pretty much helpless. I mean, why have this whole book going on and on about how possessive he is, how much he loves her and that he's basically this bada** trained killer and then, his hands are tied when Hayley actually needs rescuing. HELLO! That's what we were waiting for!! For him to finally get to save what's "his".
So anywho, it was a good book. I loved all the guys in it and couldn't wait to get my hand's on their stories. I was happy when I found out Tex's book is already out. However, I didn't like it near as much as I liked Shooter.
So, I do recommend this read. It's a great possessive Alpha read.

Disappointing
By Yanicel Martinez
Review contains spoilers!!!!!!

I wanted to give this book (and series) a chance, I really did. I haven't read a book that has pissed me off and soured my mood in a long time and this book has managed to do that and by the end I was just skimming through the pages. There were parts of the book that I thought were sweet and I would've liked to see more of, but I definitely had a few issues with the book as a whole. First of all, Chris/Shooter (the hero) is way too possessive, the kind of possessive that borders the psychopath line. He wasn't physically nor sexually abusive, but he was emotionally abusive. He was inconsiderate of Hayley/Sarah/Slick (the heroine)'s feelings and kind of did with her what he wanted and what he said was always what she had to do. A big problem with Chris was the infidelity, he cheated on Hayley the whole time with Deanna, someone who Hayley was around the whole time and then when she found out about his cheating, he brushed it off and got mad at her for even bringing it up. Another big issue for me was how they handled the whole rape storyline. Hayley acted very uncharacteristic for someone who went through a HUGE trauma twice. I'm glad that she was able to defend herself and it didn't turn into a "damsel in distress", guy saves girl because she can't do it herself situation, but my point is that the way it was handled was so disrespectful/wrong. Chris assumed that she was raped and instead of consulting it with Hayley first and making sure she trusted him enough to disclose that sort of information, he just simply said it in front of his buddies one day like it was just a casual thing that wasn't that big of a deal. Now I know rape victims that would not appreciate having anyone disclose such information and the fact that it wasn't Hayley who chose to open up about it and say it in confidence really bothered me. Going back to Chris, him and his buddies seemed to have this misogynistic thinking that at times made me want to throw my phone across the room. At one point Hayley had made tea and they were having a conversation about mowing the lawn and he said something along the lines of "mowing lawn is for men, making tea is for women", I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the ridiculousness of that. Anyways, I think it's obvious where I stand with this book and I will not be bothering to read the rest of the series. I suggest that you read the book first and form your own opinion, but I don't understand how anyone can enjoy this book or even get to end without gritting their teeth from the ridiculousness.
